Hinagdanan Cave in Bohol Philippines

HINAGDANAN CAVE is located in the municipality of Dauis on Panglao Island in Bohol Province. The cave has about 100 meters long of wonderful rock formations. The stalactites and stalagmites stick out from the ceiling and floor of the cave as though trying to meet each other. Inside the cave is a lagoon with greenish surface which came out from the limestones at the bottom of the pool.

It is quite warm inside the cave due to the small amount of airflow coming from the three holes which also serves as the light passage through the cave. With the sunlight entering the cave through the holes, bats are unsuitable to live in there.

According to the locals, the cave was discovered by a farmer who was clearing around the area but then found a hole in the ground. He then threw a rock on it and heard a splash of water from the inside.

The man then built a ladder down to the hole made out of bamboo which then later on became the name of the cave “Hinagdanan” means “Laddered”.

The entrance fee is 50 pesos per adult and additional 75 pesos if you want to go swimming inside the cave. There are also tour guides from the entrance of the cave which can guide you inside.
