Philippine's Largest Python In Captivity


Prony is the name of the Philippine Reticulated Python. She was captured on October 21, 1996 in the cemetery of Brgy. Upper Sta. Felomina Alburquerque, Bohol. The name Prony is derived from the man who captured the snake, Mr. Sopronio Salibay. Prony is classified as native python in the Philippines. The scientific name Python Reticulatus.


When Sopronio discovered Prony, she was 5 klgs. and 5 feet long and her latest measurement in the year 2013 is 300 klgs. 27 feet and 34 inches circumference of body. Reptile experts stated that prony's growth is abnormality. They said that prony's size is comparative for a 40-year old python in the wild. Reptile experts conclude that prony grows fastly because of tender love and care by the family. This monstrous constricting creatures are existing in the wild.

Prony is just one of a kind and rarely among reticulated python's. During the shedding of her skin there's a human intervention. The python lady will be the one to remove and pull her skin from head to tail. For almost 17 years she made the island of Bohol remarkable and famous in the world. As the biggest and longest python in terms of captivity. Her glorious charm and seductive beauty attracts the tourists here in bohol and throughout the whole world.

However, Mr. Salibay suffered from liver cancer and was badly ill. There are rumors and superstitions by the locals that a pet will sacrifice its self to save its master. In August 13, 2013 at exactly 11:13PM Prony died mysteriously. It was then discovered that prony died due to a liver failure. Mr. Salibay survived liver cancer and he's family believed that prony's last breath will give them an elusive inspiration just like a diamond.

Before prony have passed, she manages to gave birth for a new species. To date, the Salibay family is taking care of a new large python named Prony 2. It is now the new attraction in Bohol, though prony's skeleton and skin were being preserved.





The Python Sanctuary is located in Brgy. Laya, Baclayon, Bohol.
