Nova Shell Museum In Bohol Philippines

NOVA SHELL MUSEUM is located in Poblacion, Panglao, Bohol. Run and owned by Mr. Quirino Hora who dedicated almost half of his life collecting mollusks of all sorts in his passion. Mr. Hora also has a collection of antiques which will amaze your eyes and wonder how these items where brought on to his place.

Apart from Mr. Hora's wide collection of antiques, there is a unique piece of item that caught our attention and made us wonder how did Mr. Hora have this item. It is a tea cup which is according to our guide came from Ying Dynasty and Mr Hora is one of the lucky person to have a piece of history.

There is a huge collection of sea shells in the museum but what made this place stand out is their smallest seashell. Named after Emperor Hirohito of Japan, the shell is just so tiny that you need to use a microscope to marvel its full beauty. The owner is very proud to have this species since it was found at the waters of Balicasag Island.

But the most-prized possessions are the two shells named after Mr. Hora himself. The first was discovered in 1987 and named “Bursa Quirihorai”. The other was christened “Primovula Horai” upon its discovery in 1994. Both of these shells were discovered in the waters of Panglao.

Aside from the collection of shells and antiques, there is a huge tree house at the back of the museum. According to the locals, this was made out of Mr. Hora’s dream tree house.

The museum is open daily from 8:00AM to 5:00PM and the entrance fee is 50 pesos per adult.
